Univ of Michigan Head Coach John Beilein 2019 Winner of Coach Wooden ‘Keys to Life’ Award

Award Will Be Presented at Legends of the Hardwood Breakfast During Final Four Weekend

The 2019 Coach Wooden "Keys to Life" Award will be presented to University of Michigan men's basketball Head Coach John Beilein during the 23rd annual Legends of the Hardwood Breakfast, hosted by Athletes in Action during NCAA Men's Final Four weekend. Established in 1998, the Coach Wooden "Keys to Life" Award honors basketball figures who model the characteristics of UCLA men's basketball coaching legend John Wooden, including his high level of moral character, integrity and faith, on and off the court.

Beilein embodies the standout character and integrity reflected in the "Keys to Life" award. During his 41 years as a collegiate head coach, Beilein recorded more than 20 winning seasons, placing him in the top 10 for career victories among active Division I head coaches. He accomplished this while maintaining a reputation as the "cleanest coach in college basketball" (CBS Sports survey, 2017). In addition to his honesty and integrity in the world of basketball, Beilein is known for his work with Motts Children's Hospital, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Inc., and the St. Louis Center, a facility that administers to the emotional and spiritual needs of adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

"Coach Beilein lives out the character traits of integrity and leadership reflective of legendary coach John Wooden, in whose name this award is presented. Athletes in Action is honored to name Beilein as the 2019 Coach Wooden 'Keys to Life' Award recipient," said Mark Householder, president of Athletes in Action.

Beilein joins an elite group of basketball greats who have received the honor, including Dick Bennett, Rick Barnes, Jerry Colangelo, Del Harris, Mark Price, David Robinson, Lorenzo Romar, Cazzie Russell and Paul Westphal.
