Serita Jakes Honored with Prestigious Award from the Trumpet Foundation

Serita Jakes Named a 2012 Trumpet Foundation Spiritual Enlightenment Award-Winner

Serita Jakes, best-selling author, women's ministry director, women's empowerment advocate and wife of Bishop T.D. Jakes of The Potter's House, was honored by the Trumpet Foundation as a 2012 recipient of the Spiritual Enlightenment Award.

Trumpet Awards founder, Xernona Clayton, presented the award to Jakes at the Trumpet Awards Annual Prayer Breakfast. Jakes was selected to receive this honor along with other national and international leaders, including Dr. Bernice King, daughter of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; Collie Burnett, Jr., CEO of Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters; and Reverend Timothy Stewart, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Nassau, Bahamas.

Originally presented by Turner Broadcasting and now managed by the Trumpet Awards Foundation, the Trumpet Awards honor people who are viewed not only for what they have individually achieved, but also for the achievement they inspire in others.

Mrs. Jakes was recognized for her commitment to empowering women all over the world and for her work to end domestic violence. In her role as executive director of The Potter's House Women's Ministries, Mrs. Jakes oversees Rahab International Ministries for domestic violence victims and survivors, as well as the highly acclaimed God's Leading Ladies Life Enrichment Program (GLL), a curriculum-based program that empowers women from all walks of life.

For nearly two decades, the Trumpet Foundation has highlighted pioneers in the African American community for their achievements in their respective fields, such as law, religion, politics, public service, sports and entertainment.
